Tacos al pastor among many others (cabeza a highlight), along with tortas and gringo varietals of common Mexican favorites. In downtown KCK.
A sizable holding covering a broad range, including a substantial Impressionist collection, a diverse contemporary exhibit, and a world-renowned collection of East Asian art. I highly recommend.
The nation's memorial and museum to WWI. Incredible depth of storytelling, history, and tribute to a tragic divot in world history. Stunning views from viewing deck and top of the Liberty Memorial Tower. I recommend.
One of Kansas City's most handsome landmarks.
Gorgeous new bakery in Brookside. Lots of seating. Uneven experience so far, but the cheddar-chive biscuit sandwiches are amazing. I like mine with bacon, egg, and pesto.
Neapolitan-style pizza. Elastic dough, soft middle. Good, but I worry about consistency due to large menu and volume of diners during peak hours. Open until 01:00, which is rare for Kansas City.
Super-small pizzeria, mostly for take-out, with a couple of small tables for dine in. Buy whole or by-the-slice. By-the-slice reheats incredibly well. Thin, slightly crispy crust. Garlicky artichoke white pizza a personal favorite.
Small, but sleek art museum. Rotating exhibits of contemporary artists. Eclectic. Provocative. And sometimes, boring.
My favorite breakfast/lunch spot in the city. Simple, Americana done well. Mismatched interior is homey. I highly recommend.
Same owners, recently renamed (was Oklahoma Joe's). Most consistent BBQ in KC. Get the ribs, chicken, fries and slaw. Long lines. Get here early for lunch, or late afternoon. Can call ahead for takeaway. Multiple locations. You'll want to come to this location, the original. Highly recommend.
Love their sense of humble humor, or "Midwestern Modesty." Espresso-centric. Ever-changing roasters. Wifi. Breakfast burritos, pastries, Jiffy Mix.
Probably the most famous, and most overrated barbecue in town. Riding on coattails of Calvin Trillin's 1970s article in Playboy. That said, I do like the fries and slaw here. And I do like the "Sweet Heat" sauce. Too much paprika in the "Original" sauce. If you go, go to the original at this location.
You better know what you want when the ladies holler "Hi, may I help you?" The answer should be: burnt ends on sliced bread. I won't vouch for the rest.
Better bread in KC you won't find. "Orchard" loaf is my favorite, full of raisins, apricots, and walnuts. Open Thursdays, Fridays, & Saturdays only, until sell-out. Go early. I highly recommend.
My KC go-to for burnt ends and fries. Get the ribs if you like them shaggy. Love the high-acid sauce. Prepare to get smoked along with your meat.
