Highest levels of cooking at this Michelin-starred restaurant. Chef Andreas Bagh's pedigree at neighboring restaurant Kong Hans Kælder is clear from his classically French influenced cooking here. Pressed duck, caviar, and white truffles to spare. I highly recommend.
A true grande damme in Copenhagen. High quality of service and well-appointed rooms. In the heart of the city at Kongens Nytorv. Beautiful holiday decorations. Highly recommend.
A terrific, full-service spa with floating bean bags in the basement of Hôtel d'Angleterre. Recommend.
Why did it take me so long to get to Mielcke & Hurtigkarl? Chef Jakob @Mielcke has an incredible command of flavor, subtlety bending it to his whimsical will. This is an Asian-inspired "bing," filled with sweetbreads and freeze-dried lingonberries. #Copenhagen #recommend
The Vietnamese owner of @districttonkin and I conversed in English and Mandarin as she served me a warm bowl of Vietnamese beef and vermicelli salad with all the fixin's on a cold day in #Copenhagen. Sometimes I love how small our world has become. #recommend h/t @mark_lundgaard
You Danes are killing me with your tiles. The grand and gorgeous Glyptoteket, founded and funded by Carlsberg, the beer baron. This is Perseus, slaying the Gorgon Medusa by Antonio Canova. #Copenhagen #AThingForTiles #recommend
With a royal warrant from H.M., Queen Margrethe II, A.C. Perchs Thehandel is the official purveyor of teas to the Court of Denmark. It offers as many different teas as the number of years it has been in operation: over 180. #Copenhagen #recommend
Yes, Danish sculptor B. Thorvaldsen's sculptures are thoughtfully rendered, not only proving his command of the classics and antiquity, but also of the human form. And the audio guide is incredibly informative. But the real reason to visit this museum - Copenhagen's first museum, land granted by the king, the building funded by the people - is for the building itself, with beautiful tile work throughout, and absolutely breathtaking ceilings, ornate with moldings and motifs. #AThingForTiles #Copenhagen #recommend
Attached to the public library, this gorgeous new coffee shop has great coffee (now experimenting roasting its own), decent viennoiserie, and free wifi. Small tables on the sidewalk too. I recommend.
A gorgeous, open square in the midst of the Danish rococo royal, winter palace. I love how generous and elegant this open plaza is.
A roving ice cream cart (pictured here at Rosenborg Slot) around København. Terrific flavors. Check for location. I recommend.
One of Copenhagen's oldest butcheries. The butchers here all wear old bowler hats. The smokey scent of cured meat hangs in the air. Excellent product. I recommend.
A fairytale castle surrounded by parkland in the heart of København. A stroll through this green space is a must. I recommend.
Decent shawarma. Open very late.
Traditional Danish fare. Terrific smørrebrød, like corned veal tongue with horseradish, at lunch. Sidewalk table preferable in the summer. Recommend.
Love Bülow's high-quality "lakrids" (licorice candies). You'll find them sold in the basement food hall of the posh Magasin du Nord near Kongens Nytorv, and at CPH Airport. My favorite are the "D" candies - almonds coated in milk chocolate and rolled in black licorice dust. Highly recommend.
Recently awarded 2 Michelin stars. Precise cooking, beautiful presentations. In line with the rest of Nordic fine dining.
Upmarket casual. Love the make your own menu option (100 DKK per course) at lunch. Terrific cooking. I recommend.
A tiny porridge shop. Oatmeal and breakfast porridges by day, risotto and congee by night. Need to go back.
"King John's Cellar," located in historic sunken space. Recently refurbished with new crew of high caliber. One of Copenhagen's storied institutions of fine dining. Got a tour from friend who works there shortly before reopening. WANT TO GO.
Terrific wine bar. Set up like series of salons/living rooms. Totally casual, with a good selection of bottles. Love the vibe and the space. I recommend.
Multiple locations. Leader in the Third Wave coffee movement in Copenhagen. The original on Jaegersborggade is small and quirky. Additional seating in back room.
An old Danish institution. Hearty smørrebrod, like this plate of smoked eel and scrambled eggs. Terrific pickled herring too. Lunch gets crowded. I recommend.
Lovely spot for coffee and a simple breakfast. Ecclectic menu. Naturally lit interior. I recommend.
Precision is the name of the game at Rasmus Kofoed's 2 Michelin-starred restaurant. Tasting menu only. Lucky diners get to eat a course in kitchen with Kofoed's three Bocuse d'Or statues.
Top-end, jewel box restaurant in Claus Meyer's The Standard. Chef Torsten Vildgaard is one to watch. Precise plating; great flavors. Highly recommend.
