Kombucha, long fermented breads and natural wine at this cafe/restaurant that is pulled straight out of Northern Europe.
Salvatore Cautero is super knowledgeable when it comes to cheeses and meats of high quality. Be sure to try the provola (left), mangalitsa salumi (2nd from left), and the special pecorino (right).
Want to go. Famous for great lemons - get the lemon juice with sparkling water and bicarbonate.
It's just so good. But don't take my word for it! NY Times says: "Resist the temptation to defect to the other, less crowded pizzeria called Sorbillo on the same street, because it’s worth waiting for this traditional pizza margherita (3.30 euros): tomato, mozzarella and basil on a soft, chewy crust that inevitably will sag over the edge of your plate onto the table." A classic destination for a margherita with mozzarella di bufala. Though it used to be my favorite, other new upstart pizzerias (such as 50 Kalò and Pepe in Grani) have captured my heart.
Super simple old school trattoria; quite compact. Get a first course, second course, fruit/dessert, wine and water for less than 15€. The elderly owners will come around to recite the small menu and make sure you're having a good time.

Want to go. Three locations across Napoli (also in Chiaia and via Cilea) to buy Caseificio Barlotti and Caseificio Il Casolare mozzarella.
Want to go. Highly recommended by several locals for the fried pizza (and the experience of watching it made directly in front of you). Best to go during the day since the neighborhood is on the rough side.
Want to go. Watch them make fried pizza in front of you. Best to go at lunch since neighborhood is a bit rough.
Buonissimo. Taverna napoletana - innovativa su via bernini (di fronte conad). Primi piatti ottimi e dolci squisiti. Lo chef è giovane e bravo. Se prendete 4 portate senza vino il prezzo è anche abbordabile. Andateci.

Great Neapolitan cuisine. Typical trattoria at an affordable price. A must if you want to try the local food.

Beautiful courtyard, archeological ruins, frescoes abound in this 14th century cloister.

A relatively new "artisanal" pizzeria, rigorous in their use of quality ingredients and slow rise dough. 'Nduja pizza in front, arugula/provolone/cured meat in the back (whose name I can't remember).

Sidle up to a 0th century bar. Less crowded than Pompeii, Herculaneum is right in the middle of the Neapolitan suburbs. It feels more down to earth.

The dough here is really really good. Try a marinara or go for an in season special!
The famous pizzeria, still serving solid oblong margheritas and marinaras. Go at an off hour to avoid the lines. Sadly no buffalo mozzarella here.
The renowned Enzo Coccia's shrine to pizza. A little too clean. Very good pizza bianca.
Classic and amazing espresso. Gruff barmen dish the good stuff. Skip the cappuccino and pastries.

Another must in the "Vomero" . Eat tons of "zeppole e panzarotti".

If you are in the "Vomero" you must go to Caffe' Salvo and have their amazing croissant.

Detailed handmade marble mosaics by Federica Castro, using the same techniques as the ancient Romans
Super dark chocolate (extra fondente) gelato; hot chocolate in winter
Famous for being crazy. Be prepared.

Top pizzeria. Now with out gluten!
Interesting local products to take home (legumes, nuts, herbs etc)

It's on Jordan's 'required list' for Naples. Now I see why. What a great way to experience the history of the city.
