Beautiful small neighborhood bar in Cihangir serving up specialty coffee by day and craft cocktails by night. They roast their own beans and Khan, the bartender, puts a lot of love into every drink he makes. Definitely recommend!

Cross between Asia and Europe on the Bosphorus. Preferably with simit and tea in hand. This is the Karaköy stop (European side).

Modern Turkish restaurant from the owners of Ara Cafe, with a Greek chef whose menu focuses on fresh seafood. Want to go. Currently only open for lunch until 5, dinner service coming soon. Closed Sunday. Photo via Elif Savari Kizil.

Best traditional Turkish breakfast we had in Istanbul, recommended by natives that live here. Entrance takes you down long hallways and stairs, but then you arrive to their glorious outdoor patio. You won't be disappointed!

Cool cocktail list, hoping the famous Alex will show up. Glad the dollar is strong...

Very old Istanbul tavern style establishment, an old tradition from Greek times apparently. Far and away the best meal I've had in Turkey, and also one of the best experiences. Sit at the bar and let the wonderful, bald, mustachioed head chef give you a history lesson and a culinary education of Ottoman tradition. Highlights include house cured olives with pistachio sprouts, zucchini-walnut-yogurt-garlic purée, and mustard-sea-bass. Nota bene- this is all food that is designed to be eaten with raki over many hours. The flavors tend to be intense whether it be salty, garlicky, spicy, or nutty.
